We know that behind every child is a family carrying hopes, worries, and countless decisions. At The Space Between, we believe that no family should have to face those challenges alone. We are committed to building lasting, trusted partnerships that provide possibility, clarity, encouragement, shared purpose, connection, and a genuine confidence in the future.

The Space Between was founded by Rachel and Hanna, two experienced educators who had each spent many years working in schools before moving into one-to-one educational provision. Along the way, they came to share a simple belief: that no child should have to reach crisis before the right support is in place.

Working one-to-one gave them the opportunity to walk alongside children, families, and the wider home education and SEND communities. As they did, they encountered the same challenges, motivations and frustrations time and again, deepening their belief that connection wasn't simply the response to crisis — it could also be the way to prevent it, and a pathway to joy and love of learning.

Alongside their professional experience, Rachel and Hanna are themselves raising neurodiverse children and have experienced emotionally based school non-attendance (EBSNA) within their own families. This has given them a deeply personal understanding of the uncertainty, resilience, and hope that shape so many families' journeys.

The Space Between grew from this shared experience and vision. It was created to bring together education, relationships, and community, offering thoughtful, personalised pathways that help children and families move forward with confidence, optimism, and the belief that anything is possible.

Hanna Hunter – Co-Founder

Hanna is a fully qualified teacher whose career has spanned almost two decades across mainstream, specialist, primary, and secondary education. Her professional journey has been shaped by a belief that exceptional education begins with understanding every child as an individual, and that there is never just one pathway to success.

After completing her PGCE in 2007, Hanna spent 15 years teaching English and Classical Civilisation in secondary schools. During this time, she progressed through a range of leadership roles, including designing and leading teacher development programmes, serving as Director of Learning, and ultimately becoming Assistant Head at a local independent secondary school. These roles enabled her to shape teaching and learning beyond her own classroom, supporting colleagues to develop inclusive, engaging practice while maintaining high expectations for every learner.

Keen to broaden her expertise and deepen her understanding of primary SEND, Hanna made the ambitious decision to step into a teaching assistant role, learning alongside experienced practitioners and immersing herself in specialist practice. That experience naturally evolved into a primary classroom teaching position before leading her into full-time one-to-one home education and specialist SEND provision.

Today, Hanna combines the strategic perspective of a school leader with the creativity and flexibility of a specialist educator. She is passionate about designing personalised educational and enrichment pathways that inspire curiosity, build confidence, and help children rediscover themselves as capable, successful learners. She believes every child deserves opportunities that reflect their strengths, passions, and aspirations, and that, with the right support, anything is possible.

Rachel Perry - Co-founder

Rachel is a fully qualified primary teacher with over 15 years' experience working across education, including roles as a class teacher, SEN specialist higher level teaching assistant and a private tutor. Before moving into teaching, she built a successful career in relationship management, marketing and fundraising for major national charities, developing the communication, creative thinking and problem-solving skills that continue to shape her work today. Her degree in Human Resource Management was a natural extension of something that has always motivated her: a genuine curiosity about people, what helps them flourish and how the right relationships, encouragement and opportunities can help them discover their strengths and realise their potential.

Throughout her career, Rachel has been passionate about creating opportunities for people to thrive. Her experience spans mainstream education, one-to-one tuition and specialist SEND support, with a particular focus on building trusting relationships, nurturing confidence and designing personalised learning experiences that celebrate each child's individual strengths, interests and aspirations. She is known for thinking creatively, seeing possibilities where others see barriers, and bringing people together to find solutions that are both practical and deeply person-centred.

The Space Between hub is based Effingham, conveniently located between Guildford, Leatherhead, and Cobham. We have our own dedicated teaching premises at The Lodge on the Guildford Road, and a permanent presence at the King George V Hall and Recreation Ground. Surrounded by open green space, woodland, and excellent community facilities, our settings give children the space to learn, be themselves, and follow their curiosity.

Alongside our hub, we also deliver learning in homes, schools, and community settings, enabling us to create meaningful opportunities in the places where young people feel most at ease.
